As neutral onlookers we are fascinated by several aspects of the new season. How will Louis van Gaal fare at Manchester United? Can Tottenham kick on under their exciting new manager Mauricio Pochettino?
And will Everton be able to progress again into The Champions League spots? This may have seemed like a silly question at the start of last season. But Roberto Martinez has had such an impact that it’s now a realistic possibility.
But if Everton are going to breach the top four, as they so nearly did last season, then they will undoubtedly need to add more creativity and fire power in the final third.
Everton’s defence looked solid last time out and, in John Stones, they have a real star of the present and future. It’s his time to shine.
But it’s up top where Everton really need to add international quality.
One player who would surely interest and excite all Everton fans, if he did sign for the club, is Barcelona forward Christian Tello.
He’s a brilliant footballer who seems just unable to get into the Barcelona team on a regular enough basis for his liking.
With Gerard Deulofeu having such a great season at Everton, before returning to Barca, Tello’s opportunities could be further reduced over the next season.
Everton fans could be interested to discover that their club are favourites to sign Tello with bookmaker Bet Victor, if he does move this summer – which looks increasingly likely. And the odds are very short at even money 1/1.
Tello is a brilliant and adaptable forward with really good pace and beautiful feet.
He’s played a decent amount for Barca over the last two years – he appeared 30 times last season and scored 5 goals – but he perhaps feels that at this point in his career he needs to be playing week in week at the age of 22.
You could put him on either flank or in the hole behind a striker – he’s that adaptable and will score goals and create plenty of opportunities for others. All in all he’s a dream of a player.
Let’s see him in action. Everton fans: would this be a dream signing?
