Chelsea could be about to finalise a rapid transfer deal for striker Emmanuel Emenike. The 27 year old Nigerian has impressed Jose Mourinho and could make a move to Chelsea in a 20m Euro (£16M) deal with Fenerbahce reports The Metro.
The player is known to want to play in England, with The Metro also reporting him as saying:
‘I have always dreamed of playing in England. If I get the opportunity to play in England – I wouldn’t turn it down.’
Emenike has had a varied career. The 27 year old began his career at MP Black Aces, before spells at both Cape Town and Karabukspor. Since 2011 he has had productive seasons at both Spartak Moscow and Turkish side Fenerbahce. During that time, he managed to score 33 league goals in 70 appearances.
The striker also has 24 international caps and is currently in Brazil as part of The World Cup squad for Nigeria. He has impressed pundits in the games he has played so far.
With the apparent transfer of Spanish striker Diego Costa nearing completion and the fact that Chelsea also have Romelu Lukaku back in their squad following his loan spell at Everton, it leaves the London side looking like they will have a much stronger forward line next season.
However, the signing of Emenike would cast doubt on the futures of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba. Mourinho usually only plays with one striker up front making it unnecessary to have so many in reserve.
If the transfer does go through it would give Chelsea a strike force consisting of Costa, Lukaku and Emenike, who managed to score more than 60 goals in the last season between them. That would seem to solve Chelsea’s main concern from last season of having ineffective forwards.
