Real Madrid have reportedly begun discussions with the representatives of Edison Cavani about the possibility of a move to the Spanish capital. Although the club have made no official bid, they are interested to see what the player’s situation is as Paris Saint-Germain according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
The interest in Cavani comes after much speculation that Real Madrid would try to sign Luis Suarez. But with Liverpool holding firm, a bid in excess of £70 million might be necessary to secure his services and that is a sum that has forced club president Florentino Perez to look at other targets.
Cavani only moved to PSG last season following a 3 year spell at Napoli. He has also played for Danubio and Palermo in a career that has seen him score 179 times in 328 appearances in all competitions. The 27 year old also has 63 caps for Uruguay and would bring plenty of experience along with a definite goal scoring threat.
The Spanish giants have also been linked with Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho. With midfielder Sami Khedira apparently being deemed surplus to requirements at Real Madrid, reports from The Express suggest that the club believe Carvalho could be the ideal replacement.
The same source says that manager Carlo Ancelotti wants a defensive midfielder with excellent passing accuracy and speed. Pace would be an important factor for any player coming to Ancelotti’s side as he relied on a fast counter-attacking style for most of last season.
Carvalho has been at Sporting Lisbon since 2011, although he has had loan spells at other clubs in that time. He also has s4 senior caps for Portugal and is part of the national side at the World Cup in Brazil.
Real Madrid will no doubt be keeping an eye on his performances in the upcoming games to see if he can impress at the highest level.
