There have been a stupendous amount of words written about Diego Costa to Chelsea. That deal looks as if it’s all but concluded now, with the player speaking about the move for the first time this week.
Like Fabregas, Costa offers proven quality and surely won’t go the same way as Torres and Shevchenko. Although he doesn’t have lighting pace, Costa is one of the best finishers in Europe right now.
But we think that Chelsea can do an even better deal than that this summer. The Guardian today suggests that Chelsea are on the trail of Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Arsène Wenger hopes to use some of his cash on Paris Saint-Germain’s £15m Ezequiel “The Chubby One” Lavezzi, 29. Chelsea plan to make a slightly better offer.
We think that Lavezzi really impressed Jose Mourinho last season when Chelsea played PSG in a classic quarter-final tie. While the higher profile Cavani was fairly muted, Lavezzi was a constant thorn in Chelsea’s side, particularly in the first leg, where he drifted in that hole between midfield and attack.
Lavezzi isn’t an orthodox striker- he likes to play behind the front man and generally has such great game intelligence and creativity. The arrival of Fabregas wouldn’t necessarily preclude a bid for the Argentinian. We could imagine them complementing each other in the same side.
PSG don’t necessarily want to sell but you can imagine them spending a huge amount again this summer and they may be persuaded if a huge bid came in.
Let’s have a look at Lavezzi in action. Chelsea fans: do you agree that this could be the most intelligent signing of the summer?
