Chelsea: 250 goal striker back on the radar?

Return of the king?

Chelsea’s front line is something of an enigma at the moment.

It boasts some of the most high-profile strikers in world football but, based on statistics, you would never have thought it as the strikers have collectively failed to do the business over the last season or so.

There have been murmurs that Fernando Torres will stay at Chelsea beyond this summer but you wouldn’t be at all surprised if Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and the Spaniard were all sent packing after average spells in Chelsea colours.

Diego Costa has long been rumoured to be the leading contender for a starring role at Stamford Bridge but others will need to come in too.

Speculation persists that Didier Drogba might be in line for a return to the club whether in a playing or coaching role.

Drogba has scored over 250 club goals in his career – many of them at Chelsea – and he’s had a really good time at Galatasaray (14 goals in 36 games this season) but Chelsea is still obviously close to his heart and with Jose Mourinho back at the helm you wouldn’t rule it out completely.

Drogba is still an immense athlete, even at 36, and could surely have an important role playing in cameos as a plan B for Chelsea next season.

He would certainly be welcomed with open arms by the adoring fans and Skybet have Chelsea as Premier League favourites to sign him. He is heavily tipped with the bookmaker to join Juventus but he may still crave another chance at Chelsea under The Special One.

He may not play a lot of games if he joined Chelsea next season but he would have a huge impact on the dressing room and still be able to come on as an impact substitute and make a difference in tight games.

We would love to see Drogba back at Chelsea. What do you think?
