Manchester United: 5 reasons why Bayern will fall
Bastian Schweinsteiger – make no mistake Bayern Munich will miss this guy big time. He is the team anchor with his superb defensive and offensive capabilities. His strength and discipline allows others to express themselves. He also scores great goals, like the equaliser against Manchester United in the first leg. He’s a top player who any team would miss.
Manchester United’s form – Noone will be shouting from the roof tops about Manchester United’s form as this season has usually seen a bad result follow a good one. But Manchester United have been better over the last fortnight and they will go into this one in bullish mood.
Bayern’s form – a 1-0 reverse at 8th placed Augsburg at the weekend ended Bayern Munich’s 53 game unbeaten run. So often one bad result is followed by another. Pep admittedly fielded a shadow side, with the league already tied up, but some top players still played and the momentum is still lost.
Scoreline – Bayern Munich threw everything at Manchester united and still didn’t win the first leg. Can they be that dominant again? The 1-1 scoreline will surely leave doubts in the mind of the German champions.
1999 – Speaking about doubts in the mind Manchester United’s last gasp Champions League win in 1999 would have left permanent scars on Bayern Munich. It is worth pointing out that Manchester United haven’t beaten the Germans since that fateful evening. But Manchester United would still be viewed by some as Bayern’s bogey team and nerves will be shredded if the game goes to the wire. 1-0 with 5 mins to go? Watch out Bayern!
