It’s hard to forget the name Andrea Pirlo. Although he’s been plying his trade at the top level for 15 years it was perhaps his performance for Italy in EURO 2012 that made him most notorious in England.
Let’s face it, England were absolute pony in that game. But their position certainly wasn’t helped by the veteran Pirlo, who stroked the ball around the park with all the majesty of a Paul Scholes or Cesc Fabregas in that game. He wrested control from England to the extent that they were chasing shadows for much of the tie.
Well Arsenal are said to be interested in signing a player who has been likened to the brilliant Pirlo. The Metro today reports:
Arsenal are eyeing up a summer move for Paris Saint Germain’s Marco Verratti, according to reports in Italy.
The 21-year-old has been a regular for the French giants this season, but with no goals in over 50 appearances since he signed in 2012, it’s believed Laurent Blanc may be ready to cash in on the midfielder.
TuttoMercato report that the Gunners are ready to offer £17million for Verratti
We have to say that, although PSG will most likely be investing heavily again this summer, we just can’t see them selling a player of sensational talent and with his whole career ahead of him. Verratti has been keeping £20m signing Yohan Cabaye out of the side since the ex-Newcastle man joined in January, He’s also giving megabucks signing Javier Pastore a run for his money in the squad. Interestingly, the latter is someone who we could see moving to England this summer.
Anyway, let’s see the brilliant youngster in action. Arsenal fans – potatoes boiled? Or just another attacking midfielder for a team full of em.
