The vultures are circling The Emirates as Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is once more coming under attack in the wake of a battering from top four rivals Everton.
Some think Arsene could leave the club this summer.
While we do feel a lot of sympathy towards the Arsenal manager you may well believe by now that Arsene Wenger has simply taken the club as far as he can. Others may feel that it’s downright insulting to question a man who has kept his club competitive while overseeing a massive stadium move.
But you could also argue that Alex Ferguson more than doubled the size of Old Trafford and still brought trophies to the club every year. You would imagine that Arsenal will give Wenger one more year without the financial constraints that have reduced his power in the market over the last 6-8 years.
But Arsenal legend Ian Wright is already talking up the prospect of a new man coming in.
‘It’s got to be that kind of man, Roberto Martinez, he’s the perfect one. If someone was to ask me who I want, I’d say Roberto Martinez.
‘That’s the kind of manager you’ve got to be looking at to take Arsenal forward.’
When one so loyal to the club is talking about new managers you have to take notice. Roberto Martinez does appear to be the perfect replacement for Wenger at Arsenal. A real visionary with tactical nous and intelligence. But Martinez appears to be a very loyal man and is only one year into his contract at Everton.
We think that Arsenal will give Wneger one more year – if he wants it – a summer to spend without constraint and have another bash in the autumn. If next season goes like this one then expect a change at the helm.
