The 4-1 reverse at Arsenal in the cup still still can’t disguise the fact that Everton have improved markedly this season. They may finish the season in a similar position to last but they have developed a style hitherto unseen in their Premier League history.
While they work harder than ever for each other there is a fluidity and flair about a side propelled by exciting players such as Mirallas and Barkley. Everton now look like a side that can hurt even the best opposition on the counter.
But, as the summer draws near, the striking department will again be the subject of scrutiny. Because it is surely in this area that Everton most need to strengthen. The future of Romelu Lukaku remains up in the air but reinforcements are needed regardless of his fate.
Recent reports have suggested that an England international could be the subject of interest from Everton.
It’s debatable whether the player would want to leave Manchester United. The Salford born striker grew up supporting United but he may ultimately decide that he needs to make a move for the good of his career.
Because, while Welbeck is seen as a decent squad member few would have him in the strongest Manchester United eleven.
In some ways he’s a similar type to Lukaku. Though not yet as good a finisher, Welbeck is someone who can mix it up – he’s a strong lad but also has a lovely first touch and can play in several positions.
We think that he would certainly make a good addition to the Everton squad. Let’s see him in action.
Everton fans, does the idea of signing Welbeck excite?

No thanks, will take Hernandez if he’s going though.
