It was a poor transfer window for Liverpool. Having done some decent business in the summer Liverpool look more competitive now than at any time since a Torres fuelled title charge in 2009.
But fans were hoping that this current momentum would be helped over the winter by the additions of a couple of extra players. This would have freshened things up and added competition for places.
Obviously it’s easier said than done. A club like Liverpool are operating in a small market. It’s not only hard to identify players who are better than what you already have but you also need to compete with other elite teams for the signature of those targets.
Liverpool got very close to a major signing in January – it was a painstaking last day of the window for Liverpool fans which ultimately ended in disappointment. But, at this rate, they will be very lucky to have such a clear run at Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka again in the summer.
Because the Liverpool target is playing out of his skin right now and will surely have a longer list of suitors come the summer. The Metro today reports Liverpool scouts were in the Ukraine last night to check on the player:
Liverpool are continuing their interest in Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka after senior scouts watched the winger in action against Tottenham this week.
The Reds, who almost sealed a £16million deal for Konoplyanka in the January transfer window, have hinted that they plan to make a new push to sign him in the summer.
He had a blinder against Totteham. He’s obviously a top talent and any concerns about his ability to adapt to English football seem to dissolve by the game. He’s a risk worth taking for Liverpool with this sort of pace and skill.
Let’s take another look at the lad in action.
