The are obvious areas that, we believe, need improvement in the Liverpool squad. While few would debate the potency of the attacking line, another striker would be great to add to the pool of talent – perhaps a youngster of great promise who isn’t expecting a start straight away.
Beyond that Liverpool need to look at the midfield. Brendan Rodgers has done a remarkable job in coaching the best out of the likes of Henderson and Allen. But we think another central midfielder will be recruited this summer.
Then you look at the defence. A few high profile errors from Kolo Toure have done nothing for his confidence. But, in Sakho, Agger and Skrtel Liverpool have decent depth in the middle. It’s the full-back positions that could use some attention.
Jose Enrique is out long term after knee surgery and Liverpool have so far failed to bring in real quality in that area. At right back, Glen Johnson will be out for an indefinite period according to Liverpool which is perhaps why the club is being linked with another.
Liverpool have submitted an official offer to sign Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna in the summer (Sky Italia).
Make no mistake, Sagna is a top right back. But that’s his only position. And the same can be said for Glen Johnson. With both around the same age, and both seasoned internationals, they will expect to play every week for Liverpool. So it doesn’t appear to be the most straightforward of moves, if there is substance in the story.
You might expect Liverpool to instead look at bringing a younger player in. Or perhaps they might push the buccaneering Johnson into a more advanced position when both are fit.
Let’s see Sagna in action. Liverpool fans – keen?
