It never rains but it pours. After a barren January in the transfer market for Manchester United the floodgates opened dramatically with the whirlwind purchase of £37m man Juan Mata. That deal not only signals Manchester United’s intent to compete at the top end of the market but gives Manchester United fans hope that further deals for top players can be done this month. David Moyes certainly looks as if he has the bit between his teeth now.
The Daily Mail this morning reports that Manchester United are looking at another two major stars to strengthen their squad moving forward.
This is just the beginning… Now Moyes lines up long-term targets Costa and Luis after Man United boss lands £37.1m Mata
United scouts watched targets Filipe Luis and Diego Costa help Atletico Madrid to a 4-2 win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
United are also very keen to sign Shaw but have not made a bid and are pessimistic about their chances of doing that deal this week.
Filipe, a 28 year old Brazilian, is a left-back who has played four times for his country at senior level. He joined Atletico – a team which is flying in La Liga right now – in 2010 and has played over 100 times for his current club. You might imagine that it would be an either or situation with him and Luke Shaw, unless Moyes is planning to ship out Evra, Buttner and Fabio (now on loan at Cardiff) permanently in the summer.
We all know about Diego Costa. He’s scored more than a goal a game in La Liga this season and has been coveted by some of Europe’s elite. At 25, the 6ft 2in hit man is just coming into his pomp and its easy to imagine him making a move to one of the top 5 or 6 clubs in Europe before long – that’s not to say his desires can’t be sated at Atletico. But they may not be able to compete with the money that other clubs can offer.
Anyway, lets see Diego Costa in action with the excellent Scout Nation. CLICK FOR COSTA.
United fans, if Costa comes is it curtains for another striker in the squad?
