The search is on for a striker – and we don’t mean some 17 year old who may or may not make the grade in 5 years time. If Arsenal are serious about maintaining a challenge for the title right up until April and May they going to need to add another proper striker to their ranks.
Walcott and Bendtner have added to Arsenal’s injury woes of late and it’s hard to imagine Arsene Wenger not buying at least one forward before the window closes. After years of abuse about underperforming Arsenal are in a superb position to take the title this season. But Olivier Giroud alone surely can’t fire them to the championship. He’s right on form at the moment but with so many games coming up is going to tire.
Spanish newspaper Marca reckons that Real Madrid’s stance on their young striker Alvaro Moratta might have changed. They reported last night:
Many clubs are looking to take advantage of the player’s intermittent contribution to the Real cause, promising the player more minutes out on the field – something Morata is chomping at the bit to have. According to the Italian paper, Real Madrid is open to offers if the money is good enough.
Real is open to offers, but according to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, does not want to burn any bridges. In the case where a club is ready to flash enough cash for Álvaro Morata, ‘Los Blancos’ would insist on the inclusion of a buy-back option in the contract.
This is contrary to earlier reports which state that Morata isn’t for sale. The Daily Mail reported last week:
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti insisted Arsenal target Alvaro Morata will be going nowhere in January after he was given a ten minute run-out in their 2-0 win over Osasuna in the Copa del Rey.
‘We have not changed our idea at all’ said Ancelotti after the win. ‘Morata stays here and he has not told us that he wants to leave.’
It’s all about as clear as mud isn’t it. What is for certain is that Arsenal need to add. With Benzema, Ronaldo and Bale all able to play up front and youngster Jese coming to the fore, opportunities for Morata look limited in Spain right now. We think that a loan move would suit all parties.
Arsenal fans, is Morata the perfect addition?
