Chelsea: Star talks about his move to Stamford Bridge

Matic-Goal

This deal looks signed and sealed

Most of the transfer hype has surrounded Chelsea today and, as usual, they are leading the way in the transfer window.

It is widely understood that Chelsea old boy Nemanja Matic will rejoin the club for upward of £20m and the finer details of the move look to have been agreed. So is it a done deal?

The Independent reports this afternoon that the player has told Portuguese newspaper A Bola that he has played his last game for Benfica. He said:

“I have played my last game here,”

“I want to thank all the people at the club and all the supporters. Benfica will forever be in my heart.

“I played here for two and a half years. I gave my best in every training session, every match, and now is the right time to leave.

“I want to improve, I want to go to a better league and I want to go to Chelsea, the club which I also love.”

The last line really eliminates any doubt about which club Matic will be going to. There was talk last week that Manchester United might be involved in the bidding process but the player clearly wants to return to West London.

Having sold the player for just a few million in 2011 Chelsea are counting the cost of that decision but they look like they’re getting a really good, more complete midfielder back.

This afternoon Wikipedia has added Chelsea as the player’s current club so I think we can assume that this one is all but done and dusted now – the first major move of the January transfer window.

Chelsea fans is this a good deal or is the player overpriced?
