Most of the talk about Chelsea today has revolved around the potential transfer of Nemanja Matic back to The Bridge. The midfielder’s name has adorned many of the back pages as the consensus appears to be that he’ll be on his way to London before too much longer – for a lot more than Chelsea sold him for.
But, having had several months to properly assess the strengths and weaknesses of the squad at first hand, Jose Mourinho may well look to add a couple more in the winter window.
There’s been a transfer speculation frenzy about which strikers might come in during January. But the agent of a defensive target has been talking up his client’s chances of a move to Chelsea today.
The Express today quotes the agent (via L’Equippe) of St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma, who Chelsea have apparently expressed an interest in.
“Serie A is an interesting destination, as are Inter, for the tactical growth of the lad,” Zouma’s agent David Venditelli told French paper L’Equipe.
“Of course he wouldn’t mind moving to the Premier League, hopefully to Chelsea, where he could work with Jose Mourinho or to Monaco in Ligue 1.
“There were other sides interested, such as Newcastle, but now it’s a three-horse race.”
Zouma, a centre back by trade, has played 54 times for the French club scoring 4 times. He’s also played at every youth level for the French national side but has yet to break into the senior team.
The report suggests that the player will eventually transfer for a fee in the region of £10m. Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans, does this guy fit the bill as a long-term successor to John Terry?
