Who knows exactly what goes through Jose Mourinho’s mind except the man himself? All that the Chelsea fans know is that they trust in Mourinho. Whatever decisions he makes, however left-field, are probably in the best interests of the club.
And such is the faith shown in the Chelsea boss that even if Jose shipped the brilliant Juan Mata out in January there would be little or no publicly dissenting voices. Sure Chelsea fans want to keep the Spaniard. But if Jose says that Chelsea are best off without then so be it.
Similarly, most believe that Chelsea need to serious get a move on in their attempts to sign a top striker in January. With half a dozen Premier League goals between Eto’o, Torres and Ba you would imagine that Chelsea would be desperate to spend big on a proven hit man.
Yet Mourinho has remained coy about signing a striker in this window saying that he is happy with what he has.
We still think that a striker is needed most urgently but you wouldn’t be surprised if the Portuguese ended up buying a midfielder instead. The name of Freddy Guarin has been popping up in the sports pages in reference to Manchester United and Chelsea as a player who could add steel and energy to the respective midfields. At 27 he’s been playing out of his skin for Inter but he has consistently been linked with a move.
Although Manchester United’s need for midfield reinforcements is probably more pressing Bet Victor still see Chelsea as clear favourites to sign the 47 cap Columbian, should he make the move in Jan. The bookie has Guarin at 4/9 to be turning out for Chelsea come February (with Manchester United second favourites way back at 8/1) and we think that he’s exactly the sort of player that fits the Mourinho mould.
Have a look at him in action and let us know your thoughts.
