What a coup this would be for Jose

What a job Jose has done already in his second stint at Chelsea. With Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City playing absolutely out of their skin, you might imagine that an under-par Chelsea would be way back in the title race.

But, remarkably, without really getting out of the horrifically vague and unquantifiable ‘second gear’ Chelsea are nestled in third place just two points of the pace. Say what you like about Mourinho but there can be few arguments that he remains one of the top two or three managers in the world. How Manchester United could do with his ingenuity right now.

But it is generally accepted that the one major flaw in Mourinho’s new Chelsea is the paucity of finishers in the squad. A strange, and seemingly terminal malaise, continues to afflict Fernando Torres while Samuel Eto’o is not the man of old and Demba Ba hasn’t done the business.

Chelsea need a man who will bag 25 goals a season and finish off all the good work done by the myriad talent of the midfield. A man with a deft touch but also someone who can put himself about when necessary – Chelsea need a balletic bulldozer, as we like to put it.

It’s a long shot but how about Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Chelsea? At a shade over 32 he’s certainly not a long term option. But nor would a game ever pass him by as it often does with the previously prolific Eto’o.

With Cavani doing the damage at PSG these days Zlatan could be marginalised in the coming months and he may be the perfect solution for Chelsea’s charge for honours this season.

Bookmakers SkyBet have Chelsea as favourites for his signature should he make a move in January. At odds of 12/1 it’s a long shot. But it might just work.

Chelsea fans, would you like to see Zlatan at The Bridge for the rest of the season?
