As if the festive season wasn’t enough to bring cheer, we also have a transfer window straight afterwards, to view over our distended bellies.
And, we at soccersweep, believe that this January is going to be the biggest winter transfer window of the lot. Because, while we all know it’s difficult to sign top targets at the turn of the year, there is more money swishing around in The Premier League, and therefore more at stake, than ever.
After a brilliant couple of years West Brom have been in free fall and the sacking of Steve Clarke will only add to the uncertainty. As for Newcastle, while many mongers of doom feared for them in the autumn, Alan Pardew has once again proved his worth by guiding The Toon into a very promising position.
So, for different reasons, both will look to bolster in Jan. One name that has been linked to Newcastle and West Brom is Manchester United starlet Wilfried Zaha. With most of Manchester United’s wide men falling well below the required standards at Old Trafford this season we can’t work out why on earth David Moyes would be looking to offload the tricky winger. We’d pick him ahead of Nani and Young in a heartbeat.
Although raw, Zaha is a brilliant modern wide man with a great variety of tricks, pace to burn, natural athleticism and a decent delivery. Furthermore, his performances for Manchester United, albeit mainly in pre-season, have been excellent.
It’s a strange scenario indeed. According to SkyBet, West Brom and Newcastle are best placed to profit – at least in the short term.
If Zaha does leave Manchester United on loan, SkyBet have West Brom at 4/1 and Newcastle as 6/1 second favourites for his signature. Having seen the lad at close quarters we believe that both clubs would be a getting a super player with a big point to prove.
