Liverpool with Suarez reminds us at soccersweep of Manchester United with Cristiano Ronaldo. During his last three years at the club Ronaldo was so good that Manchester United were almost guaranteed silverware.
He was backed up, of course, by a very good supporting cast. But Ronaldo was worth a goal a game to Manchester United and that saw them beat the competition to the main prizes season after season.
The same could be said of Liverpool and Suarez. You don’t need us to remind you of his stats. But they need repeating because they are so astonishing. 17 goals in the league after 16 games is a great scoring record. But when you consider that Suarez was banned for the first 6 matches it’s almost impossible to overstate his form and value to the club.
Dare I say it? Dare you hear it? Liverpool are genuine title contenders. So they were in 2009 when Torres was on fire. But this Liverpool side looks even closer to something special. We believe that possibly only Manchester City stand in their way of achieving their first title in 20 years.
Brendan Rodgers will still need to tweak in January though. Much has been made of the left-back berth and with Jose Enrique out Liverpool need another body in there. SkyBet have installed Liverpool as favourites for the signature of Chelsea full back Ryan Bertrand. You may remember that Liverpool were also keen on the England international in the summer but Chelsea were reluctant to let him go and the player expressed a desire to fight for his place.
But Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho now has a right back on the left flank and, with Ashley Cole also chomping at the bit to get back in the side, Bertrand’s current opportunities seem very limited. Perhaps a renewed Liverpool bid may change his mind about staying at Chelsea.
SkyBet have Liverpool 6/1 for his signature and we think that Bertrand is exactly the sort of player , a la Sturridge, that Rodgers could develop into a top talent. The youngster is talented, hungry but a little raw – perfect material for the brilliant Rodgers to work with.
Let’s see him in action. Liverpool fans, does Bertrand boil your potatoes?
