Most of the speculation surrounding Chelsea over the last few months has been about securing another striker.
Fernando still hasn’t returned to top form and, at 29, one wonders whether he ever will be that deadly menace that we saw at Liverpool. Demba Ba was always going to be a short-term option.
And, although there remains a remnant of world-class quality about Samuel Eto’o, he too was only ever going to be at Chelsea for a short period.
So the question on most peoples lips has been about who Chelsea will bring in next. Confusion reigned when Jose Mourinho let Romelu Lukaku go out on loan to Everton for the season. A player who has the same sort of physical attributes as Didier Drogba you would have thought that Chelsea manager would be happy to put the player straight into the first 11 this season.
But Lukaku has been strangely overlooked and is now banging in the goals for Everton instead. Portuguese tabloid newspaper A Bola last night reported that Barcelona may make a move for the Belgian. The newspaper says that their priority is to sign the player for next season.
Romelu Lukaku, 20, has been in the sights of Barcelona. Coach Gerardo Martino asked the direction of the club hiring the Belgian striker who serves the Everton loan from Chelsea, Jose Mourinho.
The news is advanced by TV3, stating that the goal is to secure the services of Lukaku for next season as the top priority for January is to hire a central defender.
Lukaku seems like an obvious choice for Chelsea and much less so for Barcelona. He’s a balletic battering ram of a player who would be a great spearhead for Chelsea’s attack but perhaps be a bit blunt for Barca. But, we have seen with Mata, that Jose doesn’t care about popular opinion.
Chelsea fans, does Jose really not rate Lukaku and do you think he will allow the player to leave if Barca come in? Or is he simply giving the Belgian more game time before throwing back into the Chelsea side?
