It’s been all over the tabloids over the last 24 hours. He’s been in Italy for less than twelve months but Mario Balotelli’s agent is already talking up a move back to The Premier League for one of his star turns.
The Independent today quotes Balotelli’s agent:
“Balotelli and Mourinho could be reunited because they know each other and they didn’t leave each other with hate,” said Raiola.
“There was a not very nice incident between them, but they parted company on good terms. They have remained in contact and there is mutual respect.
“I know Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani will not agree, but Mario is a great striker. That is for certain and he could perhaps be that at Chelsea.”
Fernando Torres is starting to perform but Chelsea will surely buy another top striker before long. Is a move for Balotelli feasible? Well he certainly seems like the type of player that Mourinho likes up front. He’s physically very strong but also has a velvety touch when necessary. In that respect, he’s not dissimilar to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
But whether Chelsea would take a punt on a player with such a checkered history remains doubtful. Balotelli could be described as a loose cannon and you run the risk of disrupting your squad by adding such a large ego to it.
The Guardian also reports today that Chelsea may pursue another former Mourinho player – Xabi Alonso.
The 31 year old’s contract expires in June and rumours are rife that he may seek a move. The Daily Mail says:
Jose Mourinho has set his sights on bringing Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso to Chelsea in the summer.
The deep-lying playmaker’s contract runs out at the end of June and Mourinho would love to bring his former star to London, hoping to seal a free transfer in January.
Alonso is perhaps a better passer of the ball than Chelsea currently have in their ranks but buying another deep lying midfielder would further limit the chances of Chelsea’s current bevy of middle men.
But, with such a mobile group of payers at his disposal, you would imagine that Chelsea would profit from the service of someone like the Spaniard. Whether or not he fancies a move back to England remains to be seen. He was quoted in the summer as saying:
‘The Premier League? No,’ he said when asked if he was moving back this summer. ‘No way, no chance.’
