With talk reaching fever pitch about the next destination of reported Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski, Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with another prolific striker. Galatasaray forward Burak Yilmaz scored 33 in 34 games for the Turkish club last season and is being touted as a new star of The Premier League. It seems strange that while Fergie boasts of having his best strike force ever, Manchester United are being linked with forwards left, right and centre. But it’s easy to see why this lad is drawing attention. The 27 year old has the same sort of form and physique as Lewandowski and Edin Dzeko. He’s quick on his feet and very mobile for a big lad (6ft 2in) and has an unerring finish on him, as the video goes to show.

Yilmaz is only the second player ever to turn out for all of the big 4 in Turkey. At 27 he may be a little old for the typical Manchester United signing but, we have seen with the recent purchase of RvP, that if a player is good enough he’s young enough.
Despite scoring freely, especially in the last few years, Yilmaz only has 23 caps for his country, scoring 6 goals in the process. Manchester United appear to have great striking options as well as good variety and balance with Welbeck, Chicharito, RvP and Wayne Rooney. But there is rarely smoke without fire and, while the Yilmaz speculation could well be just that, few would now be surprised if Manchester United bought another striker in the summer.
