Arsenal linked with 3 strikers

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that he wishes to add a striker to the ranks before the end of January, but he’s not convinced that he can do a deal, in the time remaining to him.

“Number-wise we are maybe a bit short [but] it will not be easy, though, because you do not find strikers who are good enough to play for us on the street.”

With Theo Walcott thriving in his new role up front and Olivier Giroud beginning to fire, Arsenal don’t seem desperate in the forward areas – but the rumour mill has gone into meltdown about who Mr.Wenger might add.  Here are the main culprits of conjecture.

David Villa –  He’s 31 but still has much to offer. The man whose name we won’t mention went to Manchester United at 29 for big bucks and is thriving. Alas, would Wenger really want to spend the sort of money that it would take to bring Villa to The Emirates, for maybe 2 good seasons at a push? Barca say they want to keep Villa anyway but may still cash in while they can.

Steven JoveticThe Fiorentina forward hasn’t been prolific so far, with 30 goals in 102 games for his club (10 in 21 for Montenegro). But, as we well know, strikers tend to get more deadly with maturity. Overall the portents are good with Jovetic. He’s got great feet and doesn’t go missing when his team aren’t in possession. We could see him eventually thriving at Arsenal but he may not get a game ahead of Giroud at the moment. So is there any point bringing him in right now?

Adrian LopezAnother who doesn’t look likely a natural predator yet, with a record of 10 goals in 53 games for Atletico Madrid. But his club is flying in La Liga and this can’t solely be down to Radamel Falcao. But, with a club of Arsenal’s size and tradition, shouldn’t we be speculating about The Colombian magician instead of Lopez?

soccersweep thinks that Wenger should forget all that lot and get his hands on Christian Benteke. He would be an absolute gem at Arsenal. We shall watch with interest to see if Wenger manages to bring anyone in, but who would you Arsenal fans like to see coming in?
