With Sandro sadly sidelined ’til summer, the Tottenham hierarchy have moved quickly to bring forward the transfer of Schalke starlet Lewis Holtby, with a reported £1.5m sweetener facilitating his early arrival. The 22 year old, who is already a full international in a strong era for the national team, was of course scheduled to arrive at Tottenham in the summer.
However, a player of Holtby’s ‘dimension’ is now required to bolster the ranks in Sandro’s absence. That is not to say it’s a like for like replacement. While Holtby can happily sit in front of the defence and ‘solidificate’ the team, he also loves to get forward, as his 12 goals in 20 u21 games for the German national side amply illustrate.
It’s hard to imagine a player like Holtby being anything but a success for Tottenham – he looks like another gem of a signing – and he may now get to prove himself a lot earlier than planned.
