Tottenham target 3 strikers – report

Jermaine Defoe’s torn muscle has left Tottenham with serious shortages in the striking department.

Having suggested, on several occasions, that he won’t be adding to his squad in the winter window it now appears as if Defoe’s injury is such that a new striker is a must in this window.

The Guardian states that Tottenham have targeted three front men in a mission to get one of them in before Thursday midnight.

They are on form Celtic front man Gary Hooper, Real Madrid’s out of favour Jose Callejon and Alvaro Negredo of Sevilla. Internacional striker Leandro Damiao has also been on AVB’s shortlist for a long time but he may be regarded as too expensive for Spurs’ current budget at around £15-20m.

“We’ve found consistency in 4-4-2 so eventually we have the possibility to have one more,”….. “It’s just trying to see if it makes sense. The January market is very demanding. Transfer fees can be ridiculously high.” Said AVB

Although these forwards don’t necessarily have the ‘dimension’ and profile that AVB is after, he now realises the need for immediate additions at Tottenham this January.

Its incredable that a top 6 team in the premier can allow themselves to be in the position of having no strikers available for selection!!
Dont blame the manager, only the chairman , its a disgrace to the team and loyal fans.
I can see us not signing anyone and being lucky to finish in the top 6.
Strange thing is, in the spurs accounts released showing a small loss, it was said that was because Spurs didnt qualify for the Champions league which would have earned us around 30 mill. So here we are doing it again. To strengthen our claim for 3/4th place we need urgently one or two strikers and we will do it. We are far better than any side below us but need strength up front. There are a few options out there so Mr Levy—-do it!!

Big Stu – stupid comment. Don’t put the chairman down – he will always do whats best for the club. I certainly don’t want him to go out and spend 15 – 20 million on a striker thats not worth that amount. Sure we need a striker but it’s not a disgrace! We also have some great striking talent coming through the youth team. The only striker worth spending money on is Leandro. All the other strikers we’ve been linked too are over priced and shit.

You are an idiot if you believe Levy will come through. What makes you think he will because he certainly hasn’t for the past five windows.

You can make the accounts read what you want, just by writing down players value sdown you can lose £30 million off the balance sheet, so dont be fooled by the last set of accounts. All you have to do is look at all the players we have sold in the last 18 months from Pav, Crouch, Palasios, Krancs, Corluka, Dos Santos, Modric, VDV all sold for big money. We only spent £31 bringing in Dembele, Demps and Sigs which is what we got for Modric. So one of two things are happening either Levy is using the money for the new Stadium or he is lining his pockets, lets hope its not the latter.!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Big Stu. I respect Mr Levy as a very shrewd business man,so this is what I cannot understand about him. INVESTMENT is a big business saying, any business needs investment to expand. Football is now big business and the only investment that can make it expand is to buy class players??? To ensure Spurs expand within football we urgently need a striker. Its not rocket science is it??? That should be the only thing left to do to ensure Spurs get into the Champions League and so bloody well expand and succeed!!!!!!

Stu, I don’t know how big u are,but u are so right. I’ve been moaning about this for the last 3 yrs. The fact that we are a top 3/4th side is true, but without top quality players maintaining that status looks bleak.A few of our current crop has got no ambition, that is why we need to get rid of them.(Bentley,Livermore,Slowboat Huddlestone,Nuaghton,Jenas)With them gone we can get quality that has got the need to succeed and win.

Oh,I forgot we still has cheapskate Levy to worry about, so unless he comes to the party with something of note we might still has a chance of qualifying for CL, otherwise its the same old same old 5 or 6th place.

tottenham has always struggled with players that score since burba we was finishing 5th 6th because our team was not top 4 standard now we have a top 3-4 team but strikers that would struggle to look good in a mid table club. take the top six man u chick van Rooney man c trev dzeko aguero balo chelsea ba torres liverpool swarez arsanel even have 4 ok strikers we as a top team should buy a world class striker to really on 20 goals a season

We only need these 3 players , not big money ..they are unsettled ..and get rid of the final bits of dead wood to arry and being on CL!

Leandro Damiao. 14m+Gomes – finally may happen, internacional not doing aswell, same agent as jan Vertongen ..should be possible now fingers crossed.

Willian 15m as he is desperate to leave , and club know it after going AWOL , will want to get rid of unhappy player , good relationship with AVB.

Diame – rumoured 3.5m release clause, snap him up get rid of Livermore not enough quality and huddelstone , terrible and way off pace, maybe rose to Sunderland as we have fryers to come in, Bentley to Blackburn , Jenas to accruing ton Stanley …that lot should total 18m

That’s a net of 14m outlay! Gotta be happy with that ..then qualify for CL get 30m and buy Neymar from santos! Brazil strike force at WHL ..I’m dreaming but would love it ..cap it off with new stadium , best training in facilities in the world , domestic and European domination and all done without a Russian or Arab sugar daddy ! Bill nick would be proud! COYS!

The need for a striker or two is obvious it seems to everyone
so why is it that the the chairman and board will not pay the price for a top forward?
it seems that we want top money for our players (Which is commendable)
but only want to pay a pittence for players coming in and other clubs will not do
buisness with us because of it, thus we stand the chance of not getting into the
champions league and reaping the rewards it brings,so please Mr Levey do the right things
for the the fans who’m without, the club would not exsist and buy the top players we need

I don’t understand the idiots who try to defend Levy and his tight fisted ways. Every transfer window he tries to pretend that he went for this player and that player when all the time he knows darn well with the bids he is putting in has no chance of getting those players but it does look good and appeases the fans. Well the fans, at last, or cottoning on to the way Levy operates. People defend Levy because of what he has done the the club and rightly so and they also say he is putting the new stadium together. Well what’s happening with the new stadium and what is the point of a new stadium without a decent team to fill it. I’m sorry but you fans that defend Levy will just justify his tight fisted ways and we will eventually slip down the table back where we were and maybe win a cup or two. The football will be boring because of all the second graders Levy buys and the new stadium will be like ‘the library’ down the road.
Apparently AVB knew about Defoe’s injure at the beginning of the month yet both Levy and AVB have done nothing about it. That means we are down to one striker and he is in Africa…what a joke. A top six team operating in this way is beyond belief and what’s funny is AVB still maintains he is happy with his squad. Believe that if you can which I don’t its probably Levy telling him “no signings”.

I agree to a point with Stu, but Levy is investing in the club. I am fully behind what Levy is doing, he is building a great foundation for our club. From our new training facilities to the development of our new stadium. Look back 7-10 years ago and we where a mid table team going nowhere, now look at us. We are light in the striker area, but with Ade expected back in a couple of weeks and defoe back in action, and dempsey not playing too badly up front, i think we can afford to wait. Our biggest issue this year was not replacing Modric. We have missed his passes so much, he made the game flow so much faster for us and forced defenses into mistakes. I saw a stat on last year, Modric 70 passes per game, that was almost double of dembele last year, who has found himself trying to fill the void. He just cant get the speed of our game back to last year. Im not slating Dembele because i think he is brilliant, but i think if we played him a little higher up the pitch, his drop of the shoulder and neat little passes are second to none, when he moved slightly forward against united, he was the one creating chance’s. So i feel a man in the middle who can get our game flowing in some sort of direction is key. Moutinho is the man i want. last year 66 passes per game and 3 times the amount of tackles per game over modric, this guy would be perfect. But if Levy doesnt think the investment is worth making, then fair enough, just no more investment in players that are past it please. saha and nelson last year where terrible signings.
Lets wait till the summer and get rid of some dead wood, hudd, jenas, bentley, gallas, gomes and sig. and bring in willian, a young CB and then leandro.

One more thing, can we stop wasting a throw ins, its doing my nut in seeing us get a throw in, in our own half and seeing walker throw the ball as far as he can for none of our players to challenge and lose the ball to the other team. why no1 can spot that, just a simple little pass to retain possesion will do

I also agree with big Stu, every transfer window Levy cheapens the club with his bargaining. Why will he not just put his hand in the pocket and buy a quality striker?

    Yes we need a striker.
If we want to push forward then it has to be Leandro Damiao as he’s the quality we need at the club.
If he’s not available or too expensive, I would go for Bony a cheaper option (not as good) but he would be a good fit as he’s a powerhouse. Then go back and try to lure our #1 target away in the summer…..Leandro–Bony. Quite a strike force!

The three teams above us all have billionaire owners, so levy must be doing something right for us to be challenging them!!. If you look back over the last 6 years and beyond we have spent as much on transfers into the club as any club in the Premier League and more than most. Hence for that period of time we have been challenging for top four finish. Levy is shrewd and if he can get a good deal and make double or treble back at a later date, surely this is good business for the club. Or should we return to the bad days prior levy?? simple question: would any of you pay twice the price for something exactly the same that you knew you could get cheaper?? if you answer yes then you are obviously not a businessman!!. Remember Levy has to answer to ENIC the parent company. Levy is a very astute business manager and has the clubs best interests at heart. All this said and done I will be fuming if we do not get a striker in this transfer window as we badly need one!! i’m sure Mr Levy will stand and deliver!!
