The amusingly mouthy Marseille midfielder Joey Barton has added weight to the speculation surrounding Loic Remy’s proposed move to Newcastle United by tweeting,
“Good luck to Loic in Newcastle,” “Don’t worry I’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him.”
Newcastle fans have been waiting on a conclusion to this one for a while and, with Tottenham Hotspur supposedly interested in the £9m man, any deal will be a great boost for a club that is teetering on the brink after a period of poor form and ruinous injuries.
The departure of Demba Ba has left a huge whole in the forward line and, with Papiss Cisse struggling to recreate the form he showed last season, this signing can’t come soon enough for Newcastle United.
Remy is a full France international who has maintained a scoring ratio of nearly one goal every two games at Lyon, Lens, Nice and Marseille. He’s very quick and can play anywhere across the forward line. At 26 he’s coming into his prime and Alan Pardew will hope that Remy can add immediate spark to a side that quickly needs to find some form.
