Tea and Busquets is your condensed weekly round up of the La Liga action from Spain
We usually have to wait for a few weeks after The Premier League begins to see the start of La Liga. But this season, they have started at the same time, giving us a delightful deluge of football every weekend.
Barcelona started where they left off with a 5-1 pounding of Real Sociedad. It was nice to see David Villa return after a nightmare spell on the sidelines with a leg break. He even managed to get on the scoresheet. Pedro and the evergreen Carlos Puyol added other goals, and Lionel Messiah disappointed again with a brace.
Real Madrid had much stiffer opposition at home to Valencia but will still rue the draw and have already lost ground in a league where the title winners usually accrue a points tally in the high 90s. They were held 1-1 with goals from Higuain for Real and Jonas for the spirited visitors.
As for the also rans, Betis battered beautiful Bilbao 5-3 on their own patch, while Levante and Atletico Madrid played out a 1-1. In Saturday’s games blah de blah de blah.
Basically, Barca are a very dangerous wounded animal and will be looking to increase the gap on their rivals ASAP after losing out last season.
