Liverpool: Striker doesn’t have a prayer

Alan Pardew has admitted that NewcastleUnited are still interested bringing Andy Carroll back to the club on loan or, more likely, in a permanent deal.

Many of us felt that Andy Carroll might not be best suited to Brendan Rodgers’ preferred style of play and, in an interesting interview with The Mirror, Pardew seems to confirm that the fans opinion was mirrored by those inside the footballing elite.

“I think it was obvious as soon as Brendan Rodgers went into Liverpool that Andy’s time was going to have to be somewhere else. I think it’s quite right we’re involved in that.

“But whether he comes here is something I will take or I will leave.

“It’s a lot of money, although we’ll obviously be getting a big upside in terms of what we sold him for, and we’ve got three great strikers here already.”

The potential departure of the big England striker has drawn a huge variety of responses from Liverpool fans. So what do you think? Is Rodgers wrong to get rid of Carroll?

You cant defend a man for what he did by refering to what he did before it. look at the shambles that was keegans 2 walk outs on newcastle. Daglish f*@#ed it up for liverpool, judge a man on his last act. He may of been a legend of a player but a disgrace of a manager this time round. Stop being so absolutely small minded, your like the idiots we have here who expect the toon to win everything every season. As much as i would like that i am a realist and HOPE someday we return to something near what we were. You should have HOPE to because Liverpool re a shadow of what they were and the clouds may take a long long time to move on.

Too young, too inexperienced to carry that weight on his shoulders…poor decision to pay that money.
As many have said “it’s time to wipe our nose and send him home”

Billy-the-fish—- What’s all this ‘wipe OUR noses’ shite. Ya want him back?? then pay for him ya Geordie cheapskates, he’s a donkey anyway. What’s pardew’s moto? ‘He may be a donkey, but he’s our donkey’. Great, stop talking bollix about what we should do with him, if ya want him, then get ya akkers out and shut the fuck up.

I think your missing the point, newcastle want him but not at any cost. Liverpool need to agree on a reasonable price first otherwise he’s going nowhere. You’ll be stuck with an unhappy player who won’t start costing you 80k a week in wages.

Liverpool could reinvest 15-20m in thier squad, Andy could come home and Newcastle could have a Geordie banging in goals for them. It’s win win for everyone but it will all come down to the price. If you completly ignore the previous 35m which was just silly money then what is a realistic price considering his high wages, poor form an the availability of other forwards around europe? I think he has to go for 15m.

All I can say is Pardew put up or shut up. BR has said, he’s not going on loan and LFC will only look at good bids, so your thought he was worther £35M, you can have him for the cut price of £33M.

Are you trying to say that we thought he was worth 35m when we sold him to Liverpool?

I think you’ll find we were as shocked as the rest of the football world when you came up with that bid. It was stupid money, the price was only so high because we were adamant we didn’t want to sell.

Now you want to sell him because he hasn’t met expectations his price is going to be very different. Good luck getting 33m, I think you’re somewhat deluded if you think anyone is paying that.

He is good, …never was and never going to be $35M worth though. I would rate his present performance as ‘squad level’ and worth about $8M, …possibly he can improve, but he was always unreliable and mostly got his goals in games the team were already winning, …still factoring his potential in, he may be worth up to $12M at best.
Still, …enough about Carroll. Pardew is quoted as saying NUFC have three great strikers already – who’s the third ? Shola?

Some objectivity here. Liverpool wants to sell to buy a better suited striker? Yes. Newcastle wants to buy for sentimentality and the Geordie connection? Yes.

Leaving all historical costs and baggage, how much should Newcastle (or any other club) pay for a 4 goals/season striker in the EPL 2011/2012? Add a premium for his young age of 23 (he will have future sell on value) and add an English premium (in 2007 Bent was sold to Spurs for the same price as Thierry Henry to Barcelona – 16 million), perhaps 10 million pounds?

I am however sceptical as the recent Euros demonstrated the modern advantages of a false and mobile number 9 player like Fabregas for Spain over a big English centre forward. Carroll will at best be a Plan B at Newcastle (or Liverpool). Perhaps West Ham will be a better option for Carroll?
