Tottenham: The best man to replace Harry?

It seems disrespectful to start talking up replacements for Harry Redknapp without a full day having passed since his bizarre departure. But I suppose that you have to put your sympathy for the man into context.

He will after all be walking away with a couple of squillion, reputation completely intact, for a probable three week boozy bender and Surf ‘n Turf in the safety of Sandbanks before returning into another good job. I wonder if Liverpool might have had a punt if he had been available a little earlier?

Anyway, the press and bookies alike are suggesting that David Moyes is the overwhelming favourite for the position.

But what about Martin O’Neill? The sacking of the unfortunate Redknapp was crazy (Harry Kiri, if you will) and it’s so hard to replace him with anyone as good or as charismatic but Martin O’Neill is as close as you will get, in terms of potentially gettable managers.

Surely at some point, O’Neill will be tempted by a job at a top 5 club in England. He has of course got a great job at Sunderland but, with world class players like Bale and Modric to work with at Tottenham, would he not be somewhat seduced by an invitation to join Spurs?

David Moyes would be a sound choice. He’s a top manager. But O’Neill likes his teams to play with swagger and flair – exactly the sort of football that Spurs fans have become accustomed to through their history.

Are u kidding me? Moyes? O`Neil??? Are that stupidas to want Spurs to throw away the reputation of YEARS of quality, technical football and replace it with an old school direct style that Moyes would install or a route one approach that O`Neil loves? This is TOTTENHAM and ur aiming WAY too low! We need continuation! We need a WINNING mentality and a coach who can further develop our flowing style of play! Guardiola, Mourinho, Hiddink…THESE are the names we should pursue and pursue them aggressively. Remember we`re building a new stadium, we need to match style, ambition and substance with that goal.

    DON`T hire Moyes!

Its crazy sacking Harry. He has really done pretty well for Spurs.Honestly, sacking Harry is unbelievable.I think Spurs should go for a experienced, disciplined, winning and focused coach like Capello,Benitez,AVB (he may do well),O’Neil or Klinsman

O’Neil, Moyes and Benitez are all good managers but i think we should now be aiming higher than those. We should be looking at managers like Mourinho, Guardiola and even Jochim Loew of wich all are class managers. If not them then Laurent Blanc, Jurgen Klopp, Gus Hiddink, failing that I would love to see Klinsmann back at the lane or even Slavan Bilic. If we got him we could probably keep Modric.

I am really sad to see Redknapp go in such circumstances. I feel that he could of took Spurs forward some more.
Who is good enough to replace him?

Slaves Billic; he has already signed to be the new manager of Lokomotiv Moscow. That rules him out!

David Moyes; I think that Bill Kenwright will want to keep his man at Everton. Thus, he would command a big compensation package. Money that could go on buying good, quality players (Vertonghen, Remy, Damio etc….). Moyes would also be a step backwards, old school tactics, no thank you!

Juergen Klinnsman; this would be a really good move by Levy, he his loved by the fans and he is a very clever tactician. The main reason is, any manager who can take an ageing disalutioned German side and turn them into world beaters, must be worth considering. Will he come to White Hart Lane? NO….. Reason, he lives in the USA and has turned down jobs because he wants to stay in the USA. Also he would demand a very, very high wage, something that Levy will not do. (this is Levy’s downfall, he has short hands and long pockets, does he not know, to get the best you’ve got to pay for the best!)

Pepe Guardiola; if the money of a certain owner of Chelsea could not tempt him out of his Gap Year, then what hope does Spurs/Levy have? This to me is a non-starter…

Martin O’Neil; the main problem is that O’Neil has never reached the potential that all thought he would. Seems to of turned the fortunes of Sunderland around, but could he manage a team looking at being a competitor for a Champions League position? I really don’t think that O’Neil and Spurs play the same type of football. Spurs prefer the slick on the ground type of football, whereas O’Neil likes a direct pump the ball forward type of play. Due to this, I think that he would not be suited to the traditions of Spurs.

    Other candidates;

Juergen Klopp – Not known and so he could possible be another Christian Gross, no thank you…

Joachim Loew; Good tactition, but will he leave the German national team? Probably not!

Laurent Blanc; he would not even consider coming to Spurs…….

Gus Hiddink; He is possible, but he again as said he prefers what he is doing now.

Jose Mourinho; Would he like to take another team from London to the heights where he took Chelsea, Maybe? Would he leave a team that has won the Spanish La Liga? Simple answer, NO! This then rules him out.

Please don’t even mention, Sven Goren Eriksen, Fabio Cappello or Steve McClarren

My best bet would be Roberto Martinez. If he can get Wigan to outplay Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea. That is with the players he has at Wigan (No disrespect to Wigan or the players of Wigan). What could he do with the players Spurs have or the players Spurs can bring in. Yes he is a gamble, but I really think that Spurs would be the winners. He likes his teams to play the style in which Spurs and the fans are used to. His connections around Europe and the Americas can bring in the players Spurs need to take the very big step of trying to get into the Champions League to competing with those teams who are trying to win the Premiership title.

Whoever Spurs bring in, let’s hope that Levy does this for footballing reasons and not for the sake of just employing a manager. Bring in the best manager that can take the reigns from Redknapp and move the club forward. Whatever happens, let’s get behind our beloved Spurs. So together Come On Ye Spurs!!!
