Manchester United to buy a new striker

There has been much talk over the last couple of years about the paucity of quality in the centre of the Manchester United midfield. It is an area which many believe United will strengthen in the summer.

But perhaps not all the cash will be blown on bringing a midfield wizard to the club. Despite Manchester United’s excellent win at Blackburn, which brings yet another title into sharp focus, it is apparent that United are again relying rather heavily on Wayne Rooney up top.

In terms of numbers up front, it is now clear that Dimitar Berbatov will leave at the end of the season. Despite 49 goals in 82 games, the Bulgarian simply hasn’t punched his weight in the big games, with most of his goals coming against weaker opposition at Old Trafford. Away from home, United love to counter attack with speed but Berbatov tends to slow the game down when in possession. Furthermore, his temperament isn’t right for United. Top players miss chances and recover. Berbatov misses, looks up to the gods, then sulks for the rest of the game. Not good enough.

Micheal Owen will be remembered fondly for his last minute goal against Manchester City a couple of years ago but at 32, and with niggling injuries continuing to define his career, he is also likely to leave if reinforcements can be found.

Javier Hernandez was always going to struggle to improve on his improbably good first season at the club. Opposition defenders are now more adept in dealing with his lightning pace, standing off him a few yards, and the Mexican’s first touch has at times been disappointing this term. Most thought that he would be a nailed on starter for United this year but, although he has still made a decent contribution, there is room for improvement.

The jury is still out on Danny Welbeck and one struggles to envisage him as the future fulcrum of the Manchester United attack. He is selfless and talented but, even in adulthood, looks leggy and can frustrate his team mates and the fans. This one could easily go either way.

If the jury is out on Welbeck then the Kiko Macheda jury all went home a long time ago. His best/only good moment for Manchester United came 3 years ago against Aston Villa and he has failed to improve or impress since. He is powerful and has decent pace but lacks awareness and skill on the ball. In my opinion, he will soon be sent back to Italy, where he will play out his career with a Brescia or a Lecce.

So, if Fergie does indeed shed Berbatov, Owen and Macheda, he will surely look for at least one more striker to add to his flock. Will Keane is showing great promise in the reserves but the manager must be thinking about adding another accomplished striker who can play in advance of Wayne Rooney. He will be looking for pace, mobility and athleticism. Since his superb performances against The Red Devils in The Europa League, some have tipped Fernando Llorente for Old Trafford but I’m not sure that he has the aforementioned qualities that Fergie will, in my opinion, be looking for. Personally , I think that the perfect striker for a team like United would be Neymar. Expensive but perfect for a skillful, speedy, counter attacking team. Neymar would be adored at Old Trafford and has his whole career ahead of him.

So who do you think Sir Alex will go for?

Fernando Llorente will be the perfect striker for United..
just imagine how many crosses will he be receiving in a game..and take into consideration his scoring instinct..i think we are looking at a scoring machine 😀

Lmao Neymar we wish! Do you know how many top clubs in europe are chasing him and the player himself has spoken of his admiration for chelsea and Barca not to mention the 60 mill clause being talked about. Leandro damaio or van wolfswinkel much cheaper options

We do not need another striker – Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito, Keane are more than enough and I have a sneaking suspicion that both owen and macheda will still be here next year. Welbeck and keane and Macheda are all young and quick so give them time.
We need a couple of midfielders and/or a couple of fullbacks.
