Could Martin O’Neill cut it at the very top?
soccersweep knew it would happen . Since he has taken over at Sunderland their record is close to title winning form. Played 18, won 11, drawn 3, lost 4. Any team outside the top 3 would want that record. O’Neill has been a success at every side he has managed, making it all the more odd that he has never coached a club that can compete for the Champions League. Surely it is just a matter of time. He has tactical nous twinned with great man management skills – a very rare combination. What could he do for Liverpool? Or Arsenal for that matter? And what if Harry leaves Spurs for England? O’ Neill supported Sunderland as a boy, making his ties with them strong. But I would still be seriously worried about his long term future at the club if I supported the Mackems.
Will United do it again?
Most football pundits and fans reckon that this United team is far from vintage. Yet how many would bet against them retaining their title? They carry on like they actually own the Premier League. Apart from City away, they have a very manageable run in and, with City still to play Chelsea and Arsenal, the derby might yet become an irrelevance.
Is Balotelli good or great?
He’s got all the ingredients for greatness except perhaps for his temperament. I’d love to see how good he could be if he went to bed at a decent time.
Where are Liverpool going?
The Carling Cup should have served to spur them on but they are now playing like the season is over. Many now think that Kenny is the problem not the answer. They have spent £100m but are closer to the bottom than the top of the league. It’s going to be a critical summer for The Reds.
Are Norwich and Swansea one season wonders?
We have seen it countless times. A team comes up and takes the league by storm before getting found out in the second season. Will it happen to these newcomers? Well, they do seem to have substance as well as a refreshing style. They will both need to invest in the summer but, for the sake of football, I hope they maintain their Premier League status because they make the second half of Match Of The Day worth watching.
