Sir Alex Ferguson shouldn’t be too unhappy this morning. In fact, despite last night’s drubbing, he should be positively buzzing. Sure he has lost the battle but, if he watched the game and acts quickly enough, he will surely win the war.
Manchester United need a creative jewel in midfield and are seemingly prepared to spend tens of millions of pounds to do it. But, for me, last night felt like a Cristiano Ronaldo moment. The 19 year old, yes 19 year old, Iker Muniain, gave the older, more experienced heads at Old Trafford a footballing lesson. Where United players, young and experienced, tried to get through the game with blood and thunder, Iker took control and power away from them with effortless skill. He plays mainly as a winger but will surely come inside as his career develops. People like Phil Jones should take a good look at the Spaniard’s game. He didn’t need to run himself into the ground because he never gave the ball away. What a player this lad could be. His understanding of the game, of space, of how to open up the opposition and control the tempo is uncanny. I’d love to hear what Paul Scholes thinks about him.
If Sir Alex Ferguson wants to save himself a small fortune and buy a player that could make United tick again, he could do a lot worse than pull out all the stops to sign Muniain before he disappears into the reserve teams of Real or Barcelona. Even if he doesn’t fulfil his seemingly boundless potential, he is surely worth a flutter.

Yes,
I agree – this fellow is really exciting. Buy him plus a real ball winner ( a la Keane ) and James Rodriquez and its happy days again. Surely United have the financial resources to do this.

Why would you want 2 new wingers in Muniain and Rodriguez? We already have Valencia, Young and Nani. I agree with you that we need a tough tackler midfielder since we haven’t replaced Roy Keane and i’d go all out on Muniain’s team mate, Javi Martinez, who proved he can drop back into defence if needed. Also need a creative midfielder and since I don’t think we’ll go back for Sneijder this summer, I can see us trying for Luka Modric. If he is out of our price range, then maybe Muniain could be moved inside to form a midfield trinity of himself, Martinez and Tom Cleverley.
