The big game of the weekend is at last upon us. Sir Alex Ferguson stated in his Friday press conference that this game will be much tighter than the corresponding fixture at Old Trafford in September, where Manchester United won a mistake-laden, free-flowing game 3-1. The game will also be remembered for that miss by Fernando Torres from no more than 8 yards, with the goal gaping.
Torres and Chelsea will hope that the long awaited return to form of the formerly lethal Spaniard will begin today. Defender Gary Cahill is expected to make his debut for Chelsea in the absence of controvery ridden captain John Terry. Ramires and Cole also miss out.
As for Manchester United, Sir Alex will be hugely relieved that he is once more able to name Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley, Wayne Rooney and Luis Nani in his squad. Indeed he will hope that Manchester United’s nightmare casualty list will now ease for the final furlongs of the season. I wouldn’t expect Cleverley or Young to start, but Wayne Rooney and Luis Nani should get the nod if they are indeed fit.
Despite Fergie’s prediction, I believe that we will be in for a similarly entertaining game today as the one we witnessed in the Autumn. An early goal should open the floodgates.
The soccersweep weekend pools predictor reckons that Manchester United will come away with the win. They desperately need to win this game to stay with Manchester City, who beat Fulham yesterday. Unusually, for a game at Stamford Bridge, Manchester United are actually favourites to win at 6/4 with Ladbrokes.
Other interesting bets include Manchester Utd to win or draw with 3 or more goals scored in the match at 7/4 and Wayne Rooney to continue his recent excellent record against Chelsea and score at any time, also at 7/4
