BAYERN MUNICH have set their sights on Tottenham star Eric Dier.
That is according to German newspaper Bild, who claim scouts from the German club were impressed by Dier’s performance in England’s 3-2 victory over Germany last month.
The Bundesliga giants see the 22-year-old as the perfect replacement for ageing midfielder Xabi Alonso, who will turn 35 later this year.
Dier has starred for Tottenham this season and been key to the north London club’s Premier League title push, earning his first England call-up and being rewarded with a new five-year deal at Tottenham.
However, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has high hopes for Dier’s development and believes his ability to play in a number of positions makes him a great asset at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino said: “He has played well in midfield and was comfortable in that position. Eric’s skill is he can play in different positions in the pitch
“Eric started last season as a full-back and scored in the first two games. He can also play at centre-back, and it is good for him because he is young and he improves a lot.
“When you play in different positions you add to your game and so gain better tools to be a better player.”
Dier is not the only Tottenham star that will be the subject of interest this summer. Harry Kane and Dele Alli are sure to be on the wanted list of many of Europe’s big guns – not to mention Pochettino himsself.
Bayern would certainly be a big attraction to any young player but keeping Pochettino could be key to Spurs retaining their young talent. There’s something special being built at The Lane but lose their manager and it might be hard to convince some of the youngsters not to look also elsewhere.
Is Dier good enough for Bayern at the moment?
