ARSENE WENGER insists Leicester can still be caught despite opening up a seven point lead last weekend when Tottenham could only manage a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
The Foxes’ win against Southampton also kept them 11 points clear of third-placed Arsenal despite the Gunners 4-0 trouncing of Watford 24 hours earlier.
But Wenger has not given up hope going into Saturday’s tough-looking game against West Ham at Upton Park.
The Arsenal boss said:
“Yes of course they can be caught.
“Why not? As long as it’s mathematically possible, there’s a strong possibility.
“You look at the difficulty of the Premier League and they have been very consistent but every game is very, very tight. That can go the other way.”
Positive thinking indeed by the Frenchman but it’s also wishful thinking. We certainly wouldn’t say there’s a “strong possibility” Claudio Ranieri’s men will be overhauled.
Leicester may still be caught but if anyone pips the Foxes to the title it’s likely to be the Gunners’ bitter north London rivals, Tottenham.
Arsenal have the easier run-in of the trio but 11 points is some start to give any side and the Gunners’ best hope of “glory” this season is to continue their dominance over Spurs – 1995 was the last time they finished below Tottenham in the final league standings.
Who will finish higher this season – Arsenal or Tottenham?
