Liverpool have reportedly scouted highly rated La Liga forward, Iñaki Williams, as they continue to assess their transfer options for this and the coming transfer windows.
The Guardian reports:
Williams operates as a central striker for Spain’s Under-21s and it is understood that Liverpool have scouted him in recent weeks as Jürgen Klopp attempts to bolster his forward line.
The Athletic Bilbao striker has been proving his adaptability at a young age, playing on the wing at his club this season with great results.
The 21-year-old has scored 10 goals in 21 games for Bilbao in a breakthrough year which has also seen him turn out 4 times (1 goal) for the Spain U21 international side after his debut in March against Norway. Williams is said to have a 20m Euro release clause in his current contract.
Arsenal and Tottenham have also scouted him, according to the report, while Atletico and Real Madrid are said to be among his Spanish suitors. So a signature is not going to be easy to come by for Liverpool.
Perhaps with Mauricio Pochettino’s great work at Tottenham in mind, there is already a youthful element to Jurgen Klopp’s early deals at Liverpool.
19-year-old Marko Grujic was signed from Red Star Belgrade earlier this month before being loaned back to his old club for the rest of the season. And, although experienced, loan signing Steven Caulker is still only 24 years of age.
With such fierce competition for the fully formed superstars of modern football, signing the top players of tomorrow makes a lot of sense.
Let’s take a look at Williams in action.
