Arsenal are showing their best form at the end of the season as usual. But this time they do at least have a final to contest. Despite his side not finding enough in the tank to defeat Chelsea in the league, Arsene Wenger continues to look like the cat who got the cream and he has given a positive assessment of Arsenal’s progress this season in his weekly press conference:
“We feel we have made progress in our consistency, quality and stability. It’s important that we finish close to Chelsea.”
“Defensively we have been much stronger in the second half of the season but we still have room for improvement there.”
He also lifted the lid on the fact that Arsenal have indeed struggled to balance the books as the new stadium plan was executed.
“It’s not easy to produce quality every year. We had to sell our best players for years but we have got over that hurdle.”
“He is 50/50 to play against Swansea City.”
“He will play again this season. It’s nothing major but he will be short for the weekend.”
On Arsenal’s defeat to Swansea earlier this season:
“We were 1-0 up away and lost in the final part of the game. It was down to sloppy defending.”
In terms of the summer spending plans Arsene was typically reticent in his approach to the media:
“We have a squad of top quality. If we can strengthen our squad then of course we will do it.”
The question still remains as to whether Arsenal can really challenge next season. But they have undoubtedly improved this year and have been showing title form for the last two months. Most expect them to win comfortably against Swansea, and with the injury update in mind, here is our best eleven for the Swansea game. Arsenal fans: let’s have your elevens.
