This could be one of the more protracted transfer sagas of the summer.
Arsenal must be happy with the progress of David Ospina. Since he started getting a game the defence seems to have shut up shop. But, if Arsene Wenger wants to be ruthless and really take the league by the scruff of the neck next season, he may look for a real worldie in between the sticks.
Petr Cech seems like a perfect choice but latest reports suggest that Jose Mourinho will try to avoid selling him to Arsenal:
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho determined to block Petr Cech’s summer move to Arsenal
It’s a complement to Arsenal as Mourinho perhaps sees this Gunners side as the biggest threat to Chelsea dominance. And Cech is still a top player who, at 32, can make a difference in big games.
But any decision will surely come down to the player himself. Cech deserves the respect of choosing his next club, after playing with such credit for Chelsea over the last decade.
And if he wants to remains in The Premier League then where better to go than just down the road to another title chasing club?
With Iker Casillas way past his best, we could also see Real Madrid showing an interest if they have to bide their time for David de Gea. But Arsenal represents a more substantial and longer term project for Cech and we think that he would be a superb signing for Wenger.
Arsenal fans: Do you need him?
