Highly sought after

Now that Manchester United have ‘broken the seal’, as it were, on their summer transfer dealings it appears that it’s now full steam ahead.

Because reports Wednesday afternoon suggest that Manchester United have made a bid for highly sought after Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado. The Metro says:

Manchester United are continuing their summer rebuild having made a £32m (40m Euros) bid for Colombia star Juan Cuadrado, according to reports in Italy.

The midfielder, who has impressed at the World Cup, has been on United’s radar for some time and it appears new coach Louis van Gaal is keen to add the 26-year-old to his ranks.

Also apparently wanted by Barcelona, Cuadrado has had a sensational World Cup with Colombia, Manchester Untied’s bid will surely test Fiorentina’s resolve to hold onto the player this summer.

The 26 year old is essentially a winger but can play anywhere downy he right flank and would fit beautifully into a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 system if Louis van Gaal plans to use wing backs at Manchester United next season.

Having spent time at Udinese and Lecce Cuadrado moved to Fiorentina in 2012 and has made a huge name for himself scoring 20 times in 83 games for his Serie A club.

He’s also bagged 5 goals in 31 impressive games for the Colombia national side since his debut in 2010.

With pace, athleticism and cunning in bucket loads it’s very difficult to imagine Cuadrado not being a success in England. But with Cuadrado becoming one of the stars of The World Cup Manchester United will have to be decisive if they want him.

Let’s see the flyer in action. Manchester United fans: worth all that money?

    Would rather keep the money and spend it on another central midfielder ala Vidal/Pogba or a Central defender like Hummels/Mangala.

    For the wing we can use Lingard, Lawrence, Januzaj and Powell 😉 Plus we still have Valencia. Young and Nani must go.

    Cuadrado could have a massive impact for United, who, like Arsenal play with wingers but do not really have many on the roster. Ashley Young and Nani are the only true wing players at Man U, so Cuadrado would be a huge signing. The ability to play right back might come in handy if van Gaal insists on continuing the Chris Smalling/ Phil Jones experiment. Some time in mid-season Cuadrado will be switched to play right back as Jones is exposed.

    I am not at all encouraged by van Gaal’s signings so far. Shaw is a big talent but a huge risk. Carvalho is also just 22. I expected Man U to pursue more established players from top clubs, not emerging stars who show promise but are far from proven quantities. If Man U’s back line is as expected the starting 11 would look like this;

    De Gea
    Shaw, Carvalho, Jones, Smalling
    Hererra, Fellaini
    Mata, Rooney, Cuadrado
    van Persie

    There’s real world class quality in that line up, but there’s uncertainty too. As an Arsenal supporter, it would be a relief to keep Vermaelen form Man U and to see them field such a young team.

    What I expected was something more like this;

    De Gea
    Piszczek, Vermaelen, Mangala, Evra/Shaw
    Vidal, Kroos
    Mata, Rooney Cuadrado
    van Persie

    Casillas, Jones, Smalling, Fellaini, Young, Januzaj, Welbeck, Hernandez
