Manchester United: This swap makes too much sense to ignore
You can’t always have exactly what you want in life. Sometimes you have to compromise.
For example. I would absolutely love to have a hareem. I’ve wanted one for years. But my wife won’t allow it. It seems unfair to me. But I love my wife so I have to relent on the hareem idea.
Similarly, I love Shinji Kagawa. Not in a ‘hareem’ context of course. but as a footballer. But David Moyes hasn’t found a regular spot for him in his Manchester United team. It seems, on the face of it, that Manchester United have four number 10s in Kagawa, Rooney, Januzaj and Mata. They only just managed to squeeze three in for the first time at the weekend. But four seems beyond Moyes.
We would keep Kagawa, given the choice. Or at least try to shoehorn him into the side while this season is still alive. We believe that Juan Mata could play in front of Carrick and behind the attacking trio of Rooney, Kags and Januzaj, with RvP up top. A 4-1-1-3-1 if you like.
But this line up is probably way too attacking for David Moyes. With Mata out of The Champions League you would hope that Kagawa will get more chances for Manchester United in this campaign. But you just get this sense of doom when you think of Kagawa’s career in England.
If Moyes doesn’t fancy him then you have to look at the possible swap deal with Ilkay Gundogan. Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp clearly remains a big fan of Kagawa and the German team found a more obvious place for him in the team. Meanwhile Manchester United really need midfielders and Gundogan is one of the best.
So, it’s a deal that makes too much sense to ignore. If we were running tings at Manchester United we would definitely keep the Japan international. He’s quick, intelligent, mobile and keeps things moving. But if Moyes isn’t keen then he could at least try to get a top player in return.
