United now clear favourites for star signing

It’s been a long wait for Manchester United fans who were desperately hoping to see some new blood coming into the club in the winter window. With Manchester United languishing almost mid-table they are seriously in need of a boost for the second half of the season.

There are no guarantees, of course, in football but many of the papers are today suggesting that a Manchester United bid for the brilliant Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata is imminent.

Since the news has broken this morning SkyBet have shortened their odds on the Chelsea man coming to the club. Mata is now odds on at 4/7 to join Manchester United in January.

Until now PSG had been seen as favourites by the bookmaker to take Mata in the winter at odds of 4/1. Manchester United were 9/2 second favourite for signature of The Spaniard. But the speculation this morning has brought them in significantly and they are now clear favourites to buy the player in the winter window. Mata is also seen as more likely to leave in Janaury (8/15) than to stay (11/8) according to SkyBet.

David Moyes is desperate to get some extra class into Manchester United and if he does manage to pull off this transfer it will be seen as a major coup for the club. It’s so hard to bring in top players in January as they don’t want to change clubs mid-season and the clubs themselves are loathe to let go of their best players. There is obviously a long way to go in this potential deal, but Mata would represent the best case scenario for Manchester United.

He is an absolutely wonderful player with a mesmeric touch, passing ability and a pure football brain. He is the sort of player to get Manchester United fans onto their feet after a drab and disappointing first half of the campaign. Juan Mata could become a Manchester United legend.
