Berbatov and Arsenal

So, in all likelihood, Arsenal will be on the lookout for a striker in the winter window. Arsenal fans will already be sick to death of the sentence which starts ‘if Olivier Giroud gets injured’ . Nevertheless it is a salient piece of conjecture. Without the on-fire Frenchman Arsenal look a little toothless upfront. They can of course call on the, not inconsiderable talents of Theo Walcott, who loves to play up front.

Lukas Podolski is also nearing fitness as the festive period approaches. But stories are flying around about Arsenal trying to find someone else to bolster their forward line. As we know, it is exceedingly difficult to buy really top talent in January. Particularly in a pre-World Cup season, players will be apprehensive about making big moves, which could unsettle them and potentially jeopardise their national team places.

Accordingly, Arsenal have been linked with Real Madrid’s youngster Alvaro Morata, who could come to The Emirates on a loan deal in January. Although clearly a good player, there are no guarantees that one so young would quickly adapt to life in The Premier League. Arsenal would possibly be better served by going for a player with experience in England.

One such player, who is beginning to generate speculation about his future, is Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov. His agent said today that the player is no longer happy at the club.

Arsenal fans might prefer to sign a player with real pace to add to the forward line – the Tottenham links could further obstruct a move – but we think that Berbatov would be a fantastic addition to Arsenal’s title charge. He’s not the sort of player to grab a game by the scruff of the neck – but we all know about the decisive moments of class that he can bring to a game. If he could add 10 to 15 goals to Arsenal’s tally between January and the end of the season he would surely represent is a good short-term signing.

It is of course pure speculation right now but we think Dimitar Berbatov to Arsenal could become a feasible prospect if the player does decide that he wants to make a move – the sort of surprising bit of business that could be seen, in future, as a masterstroke by Arsene Wenger.

Let’s see the Bulgarian in action. Arsenal fans, would you want him?
