Get him in

It’s a lovely thought. Arsenal obviously need to step up again in terms of transfers and there has been a steady flow of recent (mis/)information about a the potential signing of a player who could definitely make the difference.

Mats Hummels, 25, is one of the best defenders in Europe right now. Fresh – possibly not that true – but, at least, buoyant from a World Cup win with Germany Hummels is one of the darlings of the German. Everyone wants him and Arsenal are said to be ‘confident’ of signing the lad in January:

Arsenal confident of signing Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund with £32m transfer offer

Really? Obviously heads are regularly turned by the big money on offer in The Premier League. But this is a guy who recently confirmed his happiness to stay in Germany as the new captain of Borussia Dortmund:

“It’s nice to hear that big clubs like that are interested in you,” he told Bundesliga Magazin International. “I take that as a compliment. But it doesn’t influence me in any way, otherwise. We earn enough here in Dortmund.

“There will always be someone who can pay more than BVB. But Dortmund have made a lot of progress during my time here. In any case: I believe that it’s enough for me. If one day I start thinking about playing abroad, money won’t be the reason. But I don’t even think about that at the moment. We still have so much further to go here.”

Arsenal will likely want him but we can’t see it happening in January and most probably not with the reported transfer kitty of £20m that the club is said to be offering their boss. Nevertheless it’s the sort of signing, along with Khedira, Cech and a top striker, that could finally get Arsenal over the line in terms of title glory.

Let’s see the lad in action.
