Mesut Ozil wanted by a surprise La Liga club

Arsene Wenger is already bracing himself for the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Whereas Sanchez has long looked Manchester City-bound, there has been a little more speculation when it comes to his team-mate.

Ozil is yet to commit to a new deal as he runs down his current contract. The Germany international is now being linked with a shock move to Atletico Madrid, via the Sun, and it’s claimed the Rojiblancos have already contacted his representatives.

The playmaker will officially be free to speak to foreign clubs from January, by which time he’ll have just six months left on his contract.

Diego Simeone is keen to strengthen in the New Year as a transfer embargo banned him from bringing in reinforcements in the summer.

With Antoine Griezmann’s future still unclear, Atleti are already thinking of ways to bolster their attack.

Ozil was a huge success in Spain during his time with city rivals Real, hence why Simeone is prepared to offer him around £200,000 a week.

His agents are currently demanding wages in excess of that from Arsenal, but he may have to climbdown if he wants a top club to take him on.

Atleti would be far more open to such a lofty salary because they will have the chance to sign him for nothing in the summer.
