Ross Barkley remains an Everton player despite Ronald Koeman’s insistence he would “100%” be leaving Goodison Park over the summer.
A hamstring injury has got in the way of his big move after he turned down the chance to sign a new contract, with Chelsea and Tottenham thought to have been interested in the England international.
It was widely reported on Deadline Day that the 23-year-old was having a medical with the Blues after Everton accepted a £35million bid, but his representatives quickly denied that it had taken place.
The midfielder was thought to have turned down the champions because he wanted to speak to Spurs first, but he has now taken to Twitter to clear up the situation and explain why he’ll be staying on Merseyside until January at the earliest.
Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point.

I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit

Thanks for all of the support.

Barkley has fallen down the pecking order since Koeman brought in Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney in his position, so it remains to be seen whether we’ll see him in an Everton shirt again.
