Spurs bracing themselves for £50m Danny Rose bid

Tottenham could be left with very little time to replace Danny Rose if the left-back departs this summer.

Spurs must have serious doubts about the defender staying at the club after his interview with the Sun, even if selling him would leave Ben Davies as their only senior left-back.

The newspaper’s latest report suggests Chelsea are ready to take advantage of the disharmony between Rose and Tottenham by making a bid once they have faced the Lilywhites at Wembley on Sunday.

Defeat in that game would be a disaster for Antonio Conte following the Blues’ opening day 3-2 defeat to Burnley, and it would further expose the lack of depth that has left him hunting for new signings with just a fortnight to go in the transfer window.

Roman Abramovich has already forked out over £130million on Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Alvaro Morata, yet there is still plenty of work to be done.

Under normal circumstances, Daniel Levy would be hugely reluctant to sell to Chelsea, with only relatively minor players having changed hands between the two clubs in recent years. It’s thought it would take at least £50million to change his mind.

Jan Vertonghen can play at left-back and could provide cover for Davies if necessary, while Mauricio Pochettino is also likely to bring in one more versatile defender to ensure Rose’s potential departure will not hit his side too hard.

Rose to Chelsea, I should hope not. Daniel Levy, please tell Chelsea they are not welcome to any of Tottenham’s players at any cost. Anyway I understand that Rose wants to play up north. Spurs could always sell him to Doncaster if he wants to go north.

Rose should go, Aurier/Trips right back, Alderweild and Sanchez centre halves, Vortongen/ Davis left back.
