Jose Mourinho is still hoping to strike a deal for Gareth Bale despite saying earlier this week that it was “game over” regarding his pursuit of the Welshman.
That was what he told a press conference after his side’s Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid, but the Sun are now reporting that he is pleading with United chiefs to sanction a £100million bid for the superstar.
Real need time to find a replacement, so a deal would need to happen relatively soon.
It’s claimed Mourinho thinks that while Bale seems happy at the Bernabeu, he could be tempted by a contract offer of £500,00 a week.
That seems a little far-fetched, given that United’s top earner Paul Pogba earns £290,000 a week, and Ed Woodward is not going to upset the entire wage structure for one player – particularly such an injury-prone one who United can’t necessarily rely on week in, week out.
Mourinho has signed Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku, and Nemanja Matic this summer, but he is becoming frustrated in his pursuit of attacking midfielders.
