Pep Guardiola remains in the market for Alexis Sanchez despite Arsenal’s insistence that the Chilean is not for sale.
The Manchester Evening News report that Manchester City players are now openly talking about their potential signing of the forward, who at £50million would be their most expensive signing of the summer so far.
The newspaper claim that the only question mark against his arrival is where he would fit into Guardiola’s side, and even more pertinently, where that will leave current attackers Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero.
Aguero found himself sidelined at points last season following Jesus’ arrival from Palmeiras. However, the Argentina international still finished the campaign as City’s top scorer with 20 league goals.
The Citizens’ front line looks to be in good shape without Sanchez, but Guardiola is keen to take advantage of his unhappy situation at the Emirates nonetheless.
With just a year left on his contract, the 28-year-old has so far declined to sign an extension and bar a miraculous turnaround, there’s every chance he’ll be leaving Arsenal in the coming weeks.
