A year ago, Renato Sanches was one of the most highly-rated young players in Europe.
The Portuguese international earned a move to Bayern Munich from Benfica and topped off an impressive season with a Euro 2016 winners’ medal.
Since then, his career hasn’t exactly gone to plan. The 19-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Allianz Arena, Carlo Ancelotti handing him just six Bundesliga starts.
And the midfielder faced a backlash for an Instagram post showing him counting money, for which he apologised.
Sanches has admitted he will be seeking a new challenge this summer. After the Bavarians’ pre-season win over Chelsea, he told reporters:
“I’m not satisfied. Of course, I would like to play more that’s why I want to change and go to a club where I would play more.
“I’m now with Bayern but when we go back to Munich from Asia, we will sit together and hopefully find a solution.”
According to the Independent, Manchester United and AC Milan are the main clubs interested in him. The Red Devils famously lost out on him to Bayern because Louis van Gaal wasn’t interested, and it’s been a bone of contention for Jose Mourinho ever since.
Yet, the Mirror report that Chelsea will now join the race for his signature.
The starlet was hugely impressive against the Blues and more than held his own against N’Golo Kante.
It’s claimed Bayern are willing to sell, though they have set a price of £43million.
