Chelsea’s summer spending could go beyond £250million in the coming weeks as they continue to add to their title-winning squad.
The additions of Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Alvaro Morata would be considered pretty good business by most clubs, but Antonio Conte isn’t finished there.
The Daily Mail report he has identified four more significant targets as he looks for more defensive options and a back-up for Morata.
Alex Sandro
The Blues still haven’t given up their pursuit of the Juventus full-back, who could cost as much as £60m. Danilo was another target, but he has signed for Manchester City, and that’s likely to strengthen Chelsea’s resolve to land his compatriot from the Old Lady.
Antonio Candreva
It’s clear Conte, as a former Italy manager, is still watching Serie A keenly. The Inter Milan midfielder can also operate as a wing-back, which would make him a natural fit into Chelsea’s system.
Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool are the club most heavily linked with the Dutchman, and as Chelsea now have Rudiger, Gary Cahill, and David Luiz, a new centre-back can’t be a priority. Yet, they may want to take advantage of his situation at St Mary’s – it seems unlikely he’ll be playing for Southampton next season having told Mauricio Pellegrino he’s not in the right frame of mind and being made to train alone.
Fernando Llorente
The striker scored 15 goals to keep Swansea up last season. Conte worked with the Spaniard at Juve, and his potential arrival would cast doubt on the future of current bench-warmer Michy Batshuayi.
